Sikh Museum Initiative – 10 Year Anniversary Celebration

Join us as the Sikh Museum Initiative (SMI) marks a decade of preserving and promoting Sikh history and heritage. This special evening will feature distinguished guest speakers, insightful talks, and a vibrant showcase of arts and heritage stalls highlighting Sikh culture. This will also include the Sikh Museum Digital showcase of 3d relics via our touchscreens and Virtual Reality headsets.

Welcome remarks from Nishan Canagarajah, President and Vice-Chancellor. Talks by Simon Dixon (University of Leicester), Taranjit Singh (3D developer), Natasha Bennett (The Royal Armouries) and Gurinder Singh Mann (SMI).

Since its founding in 2015, the Sikh Museum Initiative has led groundbreaking projects to share the story of the Sikhs through exhibitions (Anglo Sikh Wars, Contemporary Sikh Arts) digital technology (World’s first 3D Sikh Museum) and promotion of Sikh heritage with many museums across the country. This anniversary event is both a celebration and a chance to look ahead to the next chapter of Sikh heritage in the UK.

*We will be releasing two new objects on our Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum-objects digitised from Kedleston Hall (National Trust).

*The release of the new educational wing to showcase Anglo-Sikh history in schools and other educational settings.

The University Campus is well served by public transport and cycle racks are available immediately outside the David Wilson Library.

Free parking for this event has been pre-arranged for central campus and can be accessed from University Road at Entrance 1.
