Heroines Book Month
Heroines Book Month
15th October - 15th November
Heroines Festival, Australia’s only festival of women writers telling women’s stories, returns for its 3rd year.
Heroines Festival Book Month amplifies and applauds stories told by women, about women. Our panel of authors complements their own creative works with a curated selection of fiction and memoir by and about women. Authors will be available throughout the month to discuss their creative practice and book selections via live Q&A video and chat sessions.
Authors interrogate the past, uncovering stories of defiant and rebellious women in Australia and beyond. Bem Le Hunte's writing revels in the vivid colour of India while weighing the clash of mythology against progress. Amra Pajalic's memoir reflects on being a child of a mother experiencing bipolar disorder, civil war and migration, while S.L Lim’ explores the violence of capital and borders. Julie Janson's novel navigates Aboriginal identity and survival against the backdrop of British colonisation, while Lee Kofman investigates societal perceptions of bodily “imperfection.” Victoria Purnham and Cathy Perkins will examine feminist struggles in early 20th century Australia, while Karen Brooks turns her sights overseas to historical witchcraft trials to illustrate women’s defiance of authority.
Writing workshops with Lauren Elise Daniels and Hayley Scrivener will coach writers through the process of writing rebel heroines (these events are ticketed separately here). And finally, Heroines Book Month will announce the winner of the first Heroines Women's Writing Awards and launch volume three of the Heroines Anthology of Short Fiction and Poetry.
The Neo-Perennial Press is proud to present the Heroines Festival Book Month. Bringing together a diverse community of readers and authors, Heroines Book Month celebrates strength, resilience and courage. Join us in Heroines Book Month to support women writers and women's stories!
