You’ve probably noticed the weird weather patterns: the horrendously wet winter following previous droughts and heatwaves; and felt the impact of rising food and fuel prices; and noted the increased cost of insurance. If you have, then you might want to catch this local screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, a new 50 minute film hosted by Chris Packham, that sets out in clear terms, the risks and threats that communities like ours face in terms of extreme weather, rising costs and impacts on health, food security, the economy, and national security.

It’s not all doom though – solutions already exist and are highlighted in the film, which is a call to action for us all.

The screening is free to everyone aged 16 and over and there will be an opportunity to listen to people’s reactions in a 45 minute facilitated discussion afterwards. This is a safe space in which to say what you feel. Seats are free and you can just come on the day, but places are limited so to be sure of a seat please book in advance. Bring a friend, neighbour or family member - everyone is welcome.

In case you aren't free on 1st October or have a friend in another part of the country that you think would be interested, be aware that 2026 will see community screenings right across the country including in our area Letchworth, Baldock, Buntingford, St Albans, Hitchin, Hertford and Ware, with plans afoot for more venues. Here is a live online map showing UK screening locations as they pop up. Revisit regularly as more screenings are being added all the time. Finally, here’s a trailer to give you an idea of what to expect.
