A Troubadour Journey : Lindisfarne to Durham
“A Troubadour Journey : Lindisfarne to Durham” ALBUM LAUNCH
FRIDAY 24th APRIL 2026, 7.30pm, Hexham Abbey
A Songwriter’s Adventure Along the Pilgrimage Trails Of St Oswald’s Way & The Way of Light
In June 2025 Tynedale based singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones walked from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to Durham Cathedral via St Oswald’s Way and The Way of Light (Northern Saints Trail). Wending their way through a captivating landscape of coast, castles, valleys and mountains, these special routes transport the traveller through the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria, a cradle of revolution in Christian faith and industrial change.
As Gareth walked he carried a small guitar on his back and performed concerts for local communities everywhere he stopped. The journey provided the inspiration for a new album of original songs written on retreat in the Cheviot Hills and Lindisfarne and recorded in Glasgow in the Autumn of 2025.
Called “A Troubadour Journey : Lindisfarne to Durham” the new work is released on 24th April 2026 with a special album launch concert at Hexham Abbey, a place Gareth passed through on his journey along The Way of Light.
Singer, songwriter, story-teller and producer, Gareth Davies-Jones has been writing, recording and performing as a professional musician for over twenty years. The lead songwriter from Howay The Lasses, a collaborator with folk luminaries like Celtish, Megson, Calum Stewart, and Yvonne Lyon, from community halls to concert halls, he has travelled the length of the country armed with a rich distinctive voice and two decades worth of perceptive, compelling songwriting spanning sixteen albums and song-writing collaborations.
His solo performances are known for gathering people together, inviting audiences to travel with him into a world of landscapes, history and characters all underpinned with assured vocals and a vibrant array of beautifully played stringed instruments. An evening with Gareth is as much story-telling adventure as it is musical entertainment.
