Althorp House  is one of England’s greatest stately homes and is the ancestral home of the Spencer Family. It was Princess Diana’s childhood home and is her last resting place. Althorp was purchased in 1508 by Sir John Spencer using the wealth from sheep rearing. The Tudor manor has established a family seat that has passed through 19 generations.

This exceptionally beautiful Grade 1 stately home features magnificent 16th Century architecture by Henry Holland and is now renowned for its vast collection of works by Van Dyke, Rubens and Gainsborough and its vast collection of other treasures. Althorp holds deep ties to British political and cultural history, serving as a hub for lavish 18th century society and residence for Royals ranging from Charles1 to Edward VII. The 13,000-acre estate remains a working agricultural property.

There is no guided tour, but we will be free to visit the house and gardens at our leisure and there are knowledgeable and well-informed assistants throughout who will be happy to answer any questions. The café will be open for you to buy lunch, teas, and coffee.
