Description
Join Hidden Compass for our fourth annual Ethos of Exploration event, featuring 2024 Pathfinder Prize-winning team, “Beyond the False Summit: Unearthing the Queer Pioneers of Alpinism” — and introducing 2025 Pathfinder Prize winners, “The Rebel Reef: Seeds of Hope“
Earlier this year, expedition leader Lance Garland, professional climber Jordan Cannon, high-altitude doctor Valentine Fabre, and photographer and mountain guide Ben Tibbetts set out for the European Alps. They set their sights on the summit of the Aiguille de Grépon but also hoped to shine a light on queer climbers in history, writing a more truthful narrative about diversity in alpinism in a time of nonacceptance.
The team, “Beyond the False Summit: Unearthing the Queer Pioneers of Alpinism,“ was the recipient of our 2024 Pathfinder Prize — an $18,000 grant to fund a global expedition in an age when discovery is about understanding instead of conquering.
For our fourth annual Ethos of Exploration event, join Pathfinders Lance and Jordan in conversation as they discuss their experiences on the mountain and what the expedition means to them. And journey to the summit of the Grépon and beyond with evocative photography from Ben.
After the conversation, the team will pass the compass to our 2025 Pathfinder Prize winners, “The Rebel Reef: Seeds of Hope.”
“The Rebel Reef “ is a multimedia endeavor about the audacity of finding hope. Over the course of 2025, local “Aquaman” and expedition leader Christian Carias will take us to Tela, Honduras, a beach town where the corals defy the odds and give us reasons to believe. Through a short documentary film and VR dive experience, this team will share the magic of this rare treasure with those who live along its shores. They want to bring this reef to them — and to you.
To close out the event, Hidden Compass will give you a sneak peak at what Team Rebel Reef has in store.
