Most Highlanders are well aware that our native wolves were hunted to extinction in the 18th century. And there has been much argument between conservationists and farmers over plans to reintroduce them.
However, that Scotland was home to lynx, bears, moose, reindeer and many other types of megafauna is less recognised. Going even further back there is also scattered evidence for ice age giants like the mammoth, woolly rhino, and Irish Elk. What were these creatures like, how did people interact with them, and why did they disappear?
Join Dr Ross Barnett in the Room to Discover at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery for a talk on the lost fauna of Britain, with a chance to see real ice age fossils.
Spaces are limited to 30, so we encourage booking a place. There is no charge for this event, but donations are welcomed.
