Quilt Design Workshop: Creative C Curve Borders with Sheena Norquay

Wed 11 Nov 2026 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM GMT Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, IV2 3EB

Inspired by the quilts and textile artworks featured in the Beyond the Bedspread exhibition, this workshop explores the creative possibilities of the classic C and S curve, a design motif widely used in both hand and machine quilting.

Participants will learn how to draw and develop C-curve patterns that can be adapted for quilt borders, sashing between blocks, and strippy quilts. Working on a small scale with tracing paper, students will create and refine their own designs while discovering techniques for enlarging motifs to suit quilts of any size.

The session will also cover practical guidance on threads, waddings, and methods for transferring designs onto fabric. Examples of free-motion machine quilting and walking-foot quilting will demonstrate how these timeless curves can bring movement, rhythm and texture to contemporary quilted artworks, reflecting the rich traditions and innovative approaches showcased in the exhibition.

Suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers alike. All materials are provided.
