Improvement 205: Learning From Variation
Tue Apr 29, 2025 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM PDT
Online, Zoom
Description
Lloyd Provost said, “The purpose of networks is to learn from variation.” Yet, how do we know where meaningful changes are happening, or why? In this workshop, we will explore a method for systematically surfacing the variation in your networks, districts or schools so that you can learn from bright spots, identify those who need extra support, refine your theory of action and accelerate learning across your network. We’ll dig into data together, engage in a protocol designed to forefront equity, and leave inspired to push our network learning to the next level. Bonus: This will be the most fun you’ve had at a data workshop. Promise.
Note: This workshop assumes a basic understanding of continuous improvement.
You will leave with:
- Insights about how to visualize data in simple and powerful ways to learn from variation and accelerate collective learning
- Strategies and a protocol for analyzing variation, identifying bright spots to learn from, and refining your theory of action so good ideas can spread
