Wild about Dark Skies Walking Tour
The Event
A walk beneath the stars.
Have you ever wondered why the stars are so important to us and how the increase in lighting is taking away our ability to connect with the landscape in the sky. Then this is the event for you.
- arrive at 7.30pm please follow stewards for parking as it is limited, if weather permits there will be parking on the field
- 8pm start in front of house
- Walk around the The Granary - up to an hour, the landscape is very rough under foot so it is not suitable for the less able.
- See the stars with the Astronomical Society until late
Join Brightling Environment Group and learn about the constellations we love to see; with Doug Edworthy enthusiastic astronomer; and Samantha Nicholas High Weald Dark Skies coordinator on the importance of reducing light pollution as we walk around the Granary at night.
Please bring along suitable clothing for the evening and red torches. If the weather is not suitable we will move this event to following week 24 April 2025.
Soup and refreshments will be available.
The Venue
The Granary is owned and managed by Isabel Lloyd, and her husband, Phil Clarke. a 16-acre smallholding, formerly part of an 18th-century mixed pig and arable farm. The site includes a small market garden growing vegetables for a local, sustainable veg-box scheme (Pink Cactus Veg), mixed native hedgerows, conservation-managed hay meadows, young mixed native woodland, orchard, three ponds and an area of developing scrub with nut trees. It is immediately adjacent to the Brick Estate, so has habitat connectivity with extensive mature woodland.
