Himaya Haven - Hidden Victims Training Prisoner Strand
1-day training programmes for frontline professionals & community advocates of those affected by the CJS. Online and face-to-face available.
Prisoners: Navigating the Criminal Justice System Through a 'Culturally Sensitive Lens'
This CPD Accredited programme is designed to better equip frontline professionals and community advocates supporting people who are currently navigating the Criminal Justice System, are at risk of entering it, or are engaging with it in some way.
At Himaya Haven, we recognise that the impact of imprisonment extends far beyond the individual. Families and communities can experience significant emotional, psychological and practical challenges, yet their experiences are often overlooked.
We refer to these individuals and families as the ‘Hidden Victims’ — people whose voices and experiences can be missed within the Criminal Justice System.
Our training explores these experiences through a humanistic, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens, helping professionals develop a deeper understanding of the barriers faced by individuals and families from diverse communities.
The training will be delivered by a Counselling Therapist with specialist experience and knowledge.
What will the course explore?
Throughout the day, we will explore:
- The psychological wellbeing and physical impact of imprisonment on prisoners
- Barriers to accessing adequate support
- The experiences of families affected by imprisonment
- The importance of culturally sensitive practice when supporting individuals and families
- Intersectionality and the ways different experiences and identities can shape someone's interaction with the Criminal Justice System
- Strategies for developing more inclusive and responsive support
