Speakers:
Izzy Bartley is a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Leeds, UK and a Digital Learning Officer at Leeds Museums and Galleries. Izzy’s doctoral research 'Legacy Games: Playing Colonial-Themed Board Games as a Form of Decolonising Work in Museums' focuses on the representation of colonialism in board games and how, through the experience of playing them, we can open up meaningful discussions on colonial histories and museum practice past and present. Liz Davidson is a public historian, content creator, and host of the Beyond Solitaire podcast, where she and her guests explore challenging issues related to games and gaming. Her interest in board games focuses on the roles they play in history, culture, and education, and she also creates game tutorials and edits rulebooks to help make games more accessible for more people. She is first and foremost a solo gamer, and her YouTube channel is the place to find reviews, playthroughs, and video podcasts.
Andrew McKelvey's background is in animation and motion design, both of which he has worked in commercially and also taught at Edinburgh Napier University. After nearly ten years, he left his role as a lecturer in mid 2025, to work full-time at the company he co-founded, Eerie Idol Games, as operations manager, graphic designer and game developer. Eerie Idol Games' first product, The Old King's Crown, released globally in 2025 after a successful crowdfunding campaign and in March 2026, a follow up campaign raised over £2.7 million to support a second printing of the game, along with a brand new expansion and game set within the same world called Annulet.
