Chedington Court and Weycroft Hall
Enjoy exclusive private tours of two contrasting and glorious historic houses hidden away on either side of the east Devon/west Dorset border.
Learn about the history of Chedington Court and its owners which include Sir Henry Peto, the son of the Victorian railway magnate, Sir Samuel Morton Peto. The house has stunning views across the Parrett valley and is built in a Jacobean manor style of local dressed Hamstone ashlar with profiled gables with ball and spear finials. The characterful features include Hamstone flooring, ornate fireplaces, meticulous plasterwork, fine panelling and excellent ceiling heights. Apart from the Great Hall which has a hammer beam ceiling of green oak, the other rooms of considerable note are the dining room with its ornate strapwork ceiling, the breakfast room with full oak panelling and the orangery which opens up to the terraced gardens. The morning room and drawing room, which are separated by Doric columns, have large bay windows overlooking the beautiful gardens and grounds.

Weycroft Hall
Later visit Grade I-listed Weycroft Hall which includes elements dating from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Among the many magnificent features is the Great Hall, dating from around 1400 and with an open timber roof, a contemporary gallery like a rood-loft and a large fireplace at the opposite end with the remains of a newel staircase. The existing house is the greater part of a former manor, made from stone rubble with freestone dressings. It has a gabled three storey north east wing with corner buttresses and an external stone stack to the side. Throughout the house are stone mullion windows and in the tower over the porch are single-light windows with cusped arches. Our owner-guided tour will include a potted history of this interesting house and its owners.
