Description
Enjoy a day in the beautiful cathedral city of Wells exploring the city’s many highlights and treasures.
Discover the historic city of Wells, the smallest in England with a famous 13th-century Gothic cathedral. It remains remarkably unspoilt with narrow streets and an eclectic mix of historic buildings including the moated Bishop's Palace, Vicars' Close, St. Cuthbert's church and a bustling market place. Our tour will commence at the medieval Bishop's Palace, home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years, for a private tour of the Palace, Great Hall and Chapel where we learn how these were built to demonstrate political power. We will visit the Cathedral and enjoy a guided stroll around the city's major landmarks, many of which have featured in film and television productions including Poldark.
We will later cross the palace moat into Market Place for lunch at the 550-year-old Crown Hotel. After lunch we will walk to Stoberry House with its breathtaking views of the city and where we will enjoy a talk with the head gardener with afternoon tea to conclude the day.
Tickets £75 including a two-course pub lunch at the Crown at Wells and afternoon tea at Stoberry House. Lunch options to be made available to attendees in October.
