Doughton Manor and Tetbury
Enjoy exclusive tours of Elizabethan Doughton Manor and a guided walk around the beautiful Cotswolds wool town of Tetbury.
Discover one of the Cotswolds’ least altered Elizabethan manors, Grade I Doughton Manor. Having only been restored or developed a handful of times in the last 400 years, it retains many original features including wood panelled rooms, historic fireplaces and original doors and windows. Alongside the manor there are three walled gardens, stables and a large barn.

Doughton Manor
The early history of the manor is unclear; however the land was leased by John Seed the Elder (a Tetbury burgher) in 1567 and it is thought possible that the house was in existence by the late 16th century. Richard Talboys - one of the original Feoffees of Tetbury - made the manor his home in the 1630s having been brought to Tetbury by the wool trade. He completed major work on the manor in 1641 and the house stayed in the Talboys family until it was sold in 1819 to the owner of neighbouring Highgrove. The next significant work did not take place until the 1930s when the then owner Col. Frank Mitchel employed Norman Jewson, a prominent Cotswold architect known for his craftsmanship, to repair the house. Nearly 100 years on and the latest phase of sensitive repair and restoration is currently underway combining traditional building materials and techniques with modern air source heat pump technologies.
