Timeless Instructions on Femininity and the Education of Daughters

Join us for morning tea to hear what it might look like to “reform the manners of society” in this modern translation of Hannah More’s writings. Her works spanned the era of Jane Austen’s genteel society characterised by definite boundaries between the sexes, and a profound reverence for and cultivation of femininity.

This book brims with timeless wisdom, challenging conventional norms on femininity, even in today's culture. More's ideas - regarded as radical by some, controversial by others - carry the power to provoke change and empower women to embrace their transformative potential.

Cindy McGarvie

Cindy McGarvie, the National Director of Youth for Christ Australia, brings a rich tapestry of life experiences to her role. Her journey began with a passion for adventure, leading her to train as a nurse in the Australian Army Nursing Corp. After her military service, Cindy, along with her husband Rod, dedicated over a decade to Bible translation with Wycliffe Australia in East Africa, immersing themselves in the vibrant cultures of Uganda and Tanzania. While serving on the mission field, Cindy homeschooled her children, finding joy in managing her household, nurturing her five children, and extending hospitality. Her experiences have left an indelible mark on her, and she passionately shares the lessons she learned along the way. During her international sojourn, Cindy developed a great interest in teaching within diverse cultural contexts and pursued external university courses in subjects like history, anthropology, and development.

Returning to Australia in 2010, Cindy served as a mission director in a Brisbane church and later transitioned to the government sector, where she developed a passion for culture, politics, and social change. In 2015, she became the National Director for Youth for Christ Australia, rekindling her enduring passion for missions. Cindy also serves on the boards of the Australian Institute of Family Counselling (AIFC) and Wycliffe Australia. She lives with her husband Rod on their rural property in Northern Rivers, NSW, surrounded by nature. They have five adult children, three sons, two daughters, three cherished in-laws, and two grandsons. Cindy's life reflects grace, wisdom, and devotion, embodying the essence of femininity and the God-given graces of women.
