Join Rob Mitchell, David Barnes and Daniel Revell from the HMPPS Briefing and Correspondence Team for a “masterclass” in drafting for our customers – Ministers and the public. These sessions are aimed at Policy Leads at HQ, staff in prison establishments and probation delivery units responsible for providing input to the team on:
• Ministerial Correspondence
• Parliamentary Questions and Ministerial Briefing
• Freedom of Information requests (FOIs)
For each of these types of correspondence work we intend to provide as much key information and guidance as possible, including the following aspects:
• Overview of the process - technical, procedural and legal requirements
• How caseworkers proceed with a case - what we need from your teams to complete a draft
• Drafting tips - 'do's and don'ts' for the different case types
• Interactive exercises
At the conclusion of the session participants will have a better understanding of the department’s responsibilities (in the case of FOIs these are statutory responsibilities) when responding; the process involved in each case; what the Briefing and Correspondence Team need from those who are supplying information on a case. This is a great opportunity to gain an insight into how we – and, more importantly, Ministers – go about presenting HMPPS’s case to Parliament and the world outside, so please do join us!
