HM Prison & Probation Service Think Child Campaign (2026) Time Matters UK: The Other Side of the Sentence – The Unseen Impact on Families

📅 2 July | 13:30–14:30 | 💻 MS Teams

When a parent or family member goes to prison, the impact reaches far beyond the individual and their sentence. Children and families often experience loss, disruption and stigma, and the actions and decisions of professionals across justice and social care can make a real difference to how they are supported.

In this event, we are pleased to welcome Time Matters UK back to the Think Child Campaign.

We will hear directly from a mother and her children, through a short film, live interview and Q&A, sharing their lived experience of parental imprisonment. The event will be led by Dr Lorna Brookes, Associate Professor in Parental Imprisonment at Liverpool John Moores University and founder of Time Matters UK.

This even offers an opportunity to:

  • hear first-hand how imprisonment affects children and families
  • reflect on how justice processes and professional practice can either add pressure or provide meaningful support
  • strengthen Think Child, trauma‑informed approaches that improve outcomes for children and the wider family.
