In this workshop we will explore the dynamics that exist in the relationships between disabled folks and their attendants/caregivers when it comes to sexuality and the provision of care. Many people find talking about sex complicated- the added layer of navigating logistics, set-up, clean-up, privacy, boundaries, communication, and so much more with a caregiver who may be paid staff, a family member, friend, service organization employer or otherwise- can be extra complicated. We will explore pathways for ensuring that disabled individuals experience non-judgemental, un-biased supportive care when it comes to sex and sexuality, and that attendants have the tools, resources, and information needed to feel comfortable and responsibly provide support.

Thyra (she/they) and TK (they/them) are a couple of feminist dreamers, community builders, advocates, educators and… an actual couple. Thyra is an educator and inclusive sex and relationship therapist, specializing in topics of disability, sexuality, gender, ethical/consensual non-monogamy, and their various intersections. TK is a non-profit leader, currently as the executive director of Abortion Care Canada, after serving as the executive director for SHORE Centre, as well as a manager at the sexual assault support centre. Thyra and TK both exist in the world as queer, genderwild, disabled people, raising kids, pets and an unreasonable number of plants.
