Perebi Georgian Choir: Winter Concert
Songs, stories and dances from Georgia
Join Perebi Choir for a lively evening celebrating the music, stories and traditions of Georgia at Christmas and New Year.
Led by Holly Taylor-Zuntz, Perebi is an Oxford-based mixed-voice choir dedicated to the rich tradition of Georgian polyphonic singing. For this special winter concert, we’ll be singing a selection of Georgian folk songs connected with the festive season, including songs for Christmas and New Year. Expect rich harmonies, powerful rhythms, intimate moments and the unmistakable sound of Georgian polyphony.
We’ll be joined by storyteller Dawn Ellis, who brings the ancient myths and wonder tales of the Caucasus vividly to life. Dawn has spent many years exploring the storytelling traditions of the region, with a particular love of the Nart Sagas and Georgian mythology, and has collaborated extensively with Georgian singers.
Adding another burst of energy to the evening, Georgian Legend Dance Studio will perform lively traditional dances from Georgia. Founded in West London in 2024, the studio was created to introduce the exciting dance traditions of the Caucasus to British audiences. Its principal dancers, Lika Gigineishvili and Giorgi Gogonadze, have both danced professionally with leading Georgian ensembles, including the Georgian National Ballet and Kutaisi National Ensemble.
Together, the singing, storytelling and dancing will take you on a journey into the vibrant cultural world of Georgia, from the warmth of the winter table to ancient stories and exhilarating dance.
Come and celebrate the season with us, Georgian-style.
