About the event

Liz will introduce her new book The Moonlight Dragon, a middle-grade fantasy with themes of climate change and rewilding. She will explain which examples of habitat recovery inspired her – including wolves and beavers – in a hopeful and positive context, sharing her love for the natural world. Children will be invited to create a new magical creature and create the perfect habitat for it to flourish in, before starting a story of their own.

About Liz

Liz Flanagan is a novelist from Hebden Bridge and is best known for her Wildsmith series, illustrated by Joe Todd-Stanton. The Moonlight Dragon is her brand-new book for readers aged 7-11. In the past she’s created work ranging from historical fiction for adults, fast-paced teenage fiction, to fantasy adventures for young children. She’s inspired by the beautiful landscape of her hometown and a lifetime of reading voraciously. Liz has won several awards, including a UKLA Award in 2024, and been nominated for the Carnegie Medal. She is currently working on two new middle-grade series. In future, she hopes to continue creating immersive, exciting and emotional stories for different ages.
