STEP UP AND SUPPORT SUFFOLK FAMILIES
Sunday 27th September 2026
Signing up to the Home-Start Hike is your chance to make a real difference for families in Suffolk who are struggling. Whether you walk 3 or 13 miles, every step helps raise vital funds so parents don’t have to face tough times alone. It’s also a great way to enjoy the outdoors, connect with others, and take in the stunning Suffolk countryside — all while supporting a cause that helps children get the best start in life.
Hike distances & start times
With four scenic routes to choose from, the Home-Start Hike offers a chance to immerse yourself in the breathtaking Suffolk countryside. Discover the landscapes that inspired Thomas Gainsborough, explore historic towns and villages, and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the valley trails. All hike routes will start and finish at Kingfisher Leisure Centre, in Sudbury
*New for 2026* - Come and meet Bluey the dog as part of the 3-mile trail
This year’s 3-mile route includes a fun family challenge, with a prize for every child and a very special guest – Bluey the dog!
Children taking part in the 3-mile walk can enjoy our fun Letter Hunt along the route. At the start, each child will receive a booklet and a pencil. As they make their way around the course, they’ll need to keep an eye out for hidden letters and write them down in their booklet. Once they’ve found them all, they can unscramble the letters to reveal a special phrase. Successfully solve the word jumble and they’ll receive a well-earned prize at the finish.
Team entry
We are inviting local businesses, clubs, community groups and teams of friends or family to take on the Home-Start Hike together. Each team can include up to six people, with every participant can choose the walking distance that suits them. Team members don’t need to walk the same route or stay together.
Refreshments & aid stations
A refreshment stand will be available at Kingfisher Leisure Centre throughout the event. For those participants taking part in the 13 and 26 mile Hike, aid stations will be available at approximately 3 mile intervals.
Home-Start Hike T-shirts
Adults and children taking part can also purchase event T-shirts. T-shirts will be available to collect on the day when you sign in for the event. Please note there are changing facilities available at Kingfisher Leisure Centre.
