The JAES are a modern folk quartet blending traditional American roots and Celtic music with original compositions, fiery instrumentals, and rich multi-part vocals. Formed in the winter of 2023 when two folk duos—American duo Janie Rothfield & Allan Carr and the “sweet singing-tune slinging” duo of Ellen Coplin & Sean Hoffman (aka Bobcat Opossum)—met spontaneously for a pub gig, the group instantly recognized their shared musical chemistry and began crafting a distinctive sound rooted in both American old-time and Celtic traditions.Since then, The JAES have toured the Midwest and Northeast, played festivals, and recorded extensively. Their album Two Plus Two showcases nine tracks of original and traditional-inspired music that reflect their adventurous arrangements and spirited interplay.
