Tue 7 May 2024 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
In a General Election year, there is a real opportunity to remind our politicians and candidates how much people, nature and climate change matters to the public. One of the most effective ways to do this is to host a hustings.
Who are Hope for the Future?
Hope for the Future is a national charity that believe informed democratic engagement is one of the most effective tools in tackling the climate and nature crisis. We work with campaigns, local groups, and individuals, sharing our consistently successful techniques, and offering wide ranging support to help UK citizens develop meaningful, positive relationships with their elected representatives, putting the climate on their politicians agenda, and driving impactful change.
Why a hustings?
By hosting a husting with your parliamentary candidates for the General Election, you can start to build relationships with your future MP, let candidates know that the climate is an important issue locally, and start holding your candidates to account. Hustings don't just impact the political atmosphere in the lead up to an election, they can help set the agenda for politics in the next parliament, and for years to come.
What will the session be?
In this one hour focused session, our team will share with you fundamentals for planning, prepping, and running a successful hustings, from reaching out to the candidates, promoting the hustings, and running it in a respectful and effective way. We will also explore some of the support Hope for the Future offers, and give you a overview of our relationship based approach. There will be discussion opportunities, and chances to ask questions throughout.
Who is this for?
This training is for everyone - those of you who have held hustings before and want a refresher, are planning to hold one for the first time and want some guidance, or just want to learn more about hustings and the process.
Our Zoom events will have closed captioning enabled. Please get in touch at info@hftf.org.uk if you have any other accessibility requirements.
