The Sussex Women Supper Club. Chapter Seven: Ursula Mommens
Thu 19 Sep 2024 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM
The Hillcrest Centre, BN9 9LH
Description
Join us for the seventh chapter of the Sussex Women Supper Club; an occasional series of events celebrating the life and times of notable women and non-binary people who have lived and worked in Sussex.
Our subject this time is Ursula Mommens; ceramicist, granddaughter of Darwin and founder of South Heighton Pottery. Her story will be presented by Helen Ritchie, Senior Curator of Modern & Contemporary Applied Arts at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
Please remember that the Sussex Women Supper Club is generally about women but not exclusively for them! Everyone is warmly invited and welcome to join us. We think you'll like it and we'd love to see you.
How the evening goes:
PLEASE NOTE - REVISED TIMES
6.00 - Doors open. Tea & cake.
6.45 - Illustrated talk commences in the hall
7.45 - Q&A and reflections with the audience
9.00 - close
Proceeds from the evening will help to support the work of Hospitable Environment CIC, a socially engaged community arts and wellbeing organisation based in Newhaven, East Sussex. We explore what it takes to create safe, happy and sustainable communities by gathering people together around shared food and creative experiences.
Many hands. If you'd like to join the crew for the evening and help with all the tasks (there are a lot!) in exchange for your food and a seat at the talk, please email us at hello@hospitable-environment.com.
We look forward to seeing you in September.
