Day 4 of The London Int'l Ska Festival see's two legends of the UK ska scene perform live...
Potato 5 meets Intensified
It's no surprise that Potato 5's 1987 debut album, starring the two legendary singers Laurel Aitken
and Floyd Lloyd, alongside some blistering horn led instrumentals,
established them as one of the most loved British ska bands. It spawned
tracks that have gone onto be bonafide classics; Western Special, Tear
Up, Jesse Jackson, Sally Brown, Big City, Sahara and Mad About You, all
on one album!
They were at the
forefront of the late 80's UK ska explosion, not only performing at the
very first London Int'l Ska Festival at The Brixton Fridge, but also
London's iconic Astoria Theatre, Brixton Academy and Town & Country
club.
Their second album 'True
Fact', mixed by Dick Cuthell at Madness' Liquidator studios pushed the
boundries further and again produced some classic tracks, especially in
Dial M For Murder, Got To Go and Rocksteady Party. Following
the departures of Mr. Aitken and Mr. Lloyd, the spuds recruited the
irrepressible singer - Spyder Johnson, and promptly released their 'Do
The Jerk' single and 'Five Alive' live album.
They'll be joined by Kent's finest - Intensified, who are celebrating their 35th anniversary with their new album - Hang Fire. Since 1990, Intensified have been championing the authentic ska, rocksteady and boss reggae styles, through hundreds of gigs across the UK and Europe. Their seven studio albums and many singles have brought them critical acclaim globally. Their live prowess and reputation has led them to back the legendary; Alton Ellis, Stranger Cole, The Tennors, The Clarendonians, Pat Kelly and Dave Barker, to name just a few. We are delighted to have them back performing at the festival for the first time in 9 years!
Before and after the live show downstairs at the Camden Assembly there will be a free entry London Int'l Ska Festival social club and record shop running with some of the finest scene DJs including; Madam Scorcher, Sally Brown, Rikette Genesis, Baba (Singapore) and more to be announced.
