This is a class for learners aged 13-17 years. I am fully DBS checked and currently work with teens in local sewing studios and Further Education colleges.
Don’t know your bobbin from your backstitch? This class is ideal for complete beginners as you will be shown how to set up a sewing machine and get stitching with confidence! I will take you through the basics and you’ll have a chance to practice with support on hand. After a run through, we can work on a simple beginners project.
By the end of your first session you will be able to:
- Thread a sewing machine
- Wind a bobbin
- Understand settings such as stitch length and different stitch types
- Care for your sewing machine with some basic maintenance tips
Set in my home, I have plenty of space and equipment plus refreshments on hand during the session. Class size limited to four people.
Please bring your own machine or I do have a some spare here you can use - just let me know when you book.
Students can sign up for one, two or three sessions and progress in
session two and three onto techniques such as zips, or buttonholes,
alterations, mending and garment making. Projects can be customised but
some examples of popular projects
for beginners are - tote bag, bucket hat, bum bag, zipped case, summer trousers or shorts. Feel free to bring your own!
