Bach's Coffee Cantata: A Caffeinated Concert
Bach's Coffee Cantata: A Caffeinated Concert
Sunday, October 4, 2026, 2:00–4:00 pm, Sydonie Mansion.
Step into an 18th-century German coffeehouse for an afternoon of music, laughter, and one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most delightful works. Set against the elegant backdrop of Sydonie Mansion, this unique concert explores the lively coffeehouse culture that inspired Bach's humorous Coffee Cantata, a comic cantata about a coffee-loving daughter determined to enjoy her favorite drink despite her father's objections.
The afternoon begins with a solo violin recital by acclaimed violinist Ilana Zaks, featuring selections from Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. Following intermission, First Coast Opera brings the Coffee Cantata to life with a cast of narrator, soprano, bass, and instrumental ensemble, capturing the wit, charm, and theatrical flair of one of Bach's most entertaining compositions.
Enjoy complimentary coffee and cookies as you immerse yourself in this unforgettable celebration of music, storytelling, and everyone's favorite morning ritual.
Tickets are general admission, and doors will open at 1:30 pm.
