Scotland & Central Europe Energy Connect

Wed 25 Feb 2026 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM GMT 14 Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2PW

Hydrogen Scotland members are invited to join us in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 25th Feb, from 5:30 to 8 pm for a special networking event with a Central European delegation organised by the UK Department for Business & Trade (DBT).

The delegation will include representatives from grid operators, policy institutions, companies, energy project development experts, analysts, and industry associations from seven Central European countries – Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The delegates’ primary aim is to learn from UK advances in hydrogen and wider energy storage technologies, deepen their understanding of UK policy and regulatory frameworks, exchange insights on the evolving Central European market landscape, and establish professional links and partnerships.

  • DATE & TIME: Wednesday, Feb 25th, from 5:30 to 8 pm
  • LOCATION: Hydrogen Scotland Office, Hall & Garden at 14 Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2PW
  • AGENDA-
    5:30 pm: Registration
6:00 pm: Presentation by István Lepsényi, President of the Hungarian Hydrogen Association followed by Introductions to the delegation
  • 6:30 pm: Whisky tasting and networking
  • Company Banners: Members are invited to bring small pull-up banners (maximum 1 metre wide) to display in the hall. Please email info@hydrogenscotland.com to reserve display space.

This free-to-attend event will begin with opening introductions, followed by networking with drinks and light snacks.

The delegation is specifically interested in learning about UK regulation and best practices in hydrogen technology, including hydrogen production, storage, H2 mobility, the green transition of heavy industry, and the energy sector.

During their larger visit to the UK, the delegation seeks to engage with Scotland’s research and innovation community, public sector bodies, and leading companies active in grid flexibility, energy storage, and hydrogen. The programme is designed to foster new partnerships, enable direct engagement, and support knowledge exchange between UK and Central European stakeholders.

This visit forms part of a wider effort to build commercial and institutional links for the coming years, when support schemes will present considerable opportunities for new projects and investment in grid flexibility, energy storage and hydrogen.

By connecting UK and Central European stakeholders, the UK Department for Business & Trade (DBT) aims to create new export opportunities for UK businesses and stimulate joint research, technology development, and market-building initiatives across the region.

More background:

The UK Department for Business & Trade (DBT) supports UK companies in growing at home and expanding internationally, while also attracting high-value foreign direct investment into the UK. Across Central Europe, the DBT operates a coordinated regional network focused on the energy sector, working closely with British Embassies and local partners to connect UK capability with regional industrial and policy priorities. The DBT is an integrated team of trade and policy teams collaborating on energy policy and energy security engagement, and on building export markets.

The Central European region is undergoing a profound green energy transition. As renewable generation expands and electricity systems become increasingly decentralised, governments and industry are seeking effective ways to enhance grid flexibility, strengthen system resilience, and deploy scalable energy storage solutions.

The UK, and Scotland in particular, has established world-leading expertise in hydrogen, long-duration storage, and grid balancing technologies, alongside a rich ecosystem of regulatory innovation, academic excellence, and commercial deployment experience.
