HumanEx are pleased to be offering another internationally recognised and accredited Mental Health First Aid course to Auckland.
As the largest accredited provider of the MHFA Aotearoa curriculum in New Zealand, we deliver public and inhouse training courses nationwide. We have a team of qualified MHFA instructors who can deliver the course in all available formats, from 2 or 4 day face to face training, to blended or online.
We are passionate about mental health crisis prevention in New Zealand. Our goal is to have a trained and certified Mental Health First Aider in every organisation and household across New Zealand by 2030.
What is Mental Health First Aid?
MHFA is the help given to an individual in the early stages of or developing a mental health issue such as depression, anxiety, or substance misuse. MHFA also teaches techniques for initial responder care for those in a mental health crisis including panic attacks, chronic anxiety, predisposition to self-injury and aggressive behaviour. MHFA is given until professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
Who is this course for?
Anyone who wants to learn how to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support a friend, family member or co-worker while keeping yourself safe.
You’ll learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms.
This course trains you as a Mental Health First Aider. You will gain:
- An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
How does the face to face learning work?
The face to face learning is delivered over the two days by a qualified MHFA instructor. Course interaction and participation enhances and reinforces the learning experience, with workbook and group activities, along with an easy to follow Powerpoint presentation and demonstration videos. On completion of the two days, participants are issued access to an online portal to where they can complete a short quiz and download their personalised accreditation certificate (valid for 3 years).
What will I get on the face to face course?
- An MHFA Aotearoa course manual, notebook, pen, lanyard and fridge magnet with a quick reference action plan guide
- Tea and coffee (please bring your own lunch)
- A qualified MHFA instructor to facilitate the course face to face
- Access to the online post course quiz, to receive a personalised accreditation certificate (valid for 3 years)
- A comprehensive HumanEx Resources Toolkit with recommended conversation starters and links to relevant Aotearoa sites and services
What do other's say?
“The training exceeded all my expectations. The team at Humanex were knowledgeable, created a relaxed atmosphere and involved everyone on the course. I now have the insights, training and most importantly the confidence to have conversations with people to make a positive difference. I wish I had done the course years ago.”
