You are invited to attend the Annual Seamus Mallon ‘Shared Homeplace’ Lecture which will be delivered by Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD at 5pm on Tuesday 22 July 2025 in the Navan Centre & Fort, 81 Killylea Road, Armagh BT60 4LD.

Please arrive at 4:30pm to be seated at 5:00pm.

In April 2025, the Taoiseach announced a new initiative called 'A Shared Home Place' .

The Taoiseach said "A Shared Home Place borrows from my late friend Seamus Mallon’s words and his endeavour to deepen a shared connection to place and to community. This participative, community initiative will be open to people across every town on this island; to build new connections and consensus on our place-based heritage.”

This lecture commemorates Seamus Mallon, former Deputy First Minister and MP for Newry & Armagh.

Seamus was an uncompromising champion of peace, democracy and reconciliation. He had a reputation as a tough unflappable negotiator.

‘Without John Hume, the vision of a pluralist Northern Ireland would not have been articulated and taken root; without Seamus Mallon, the spirit of decency and democracy might have been quenched.’ Drapier 1999

‘Seamus Mallon has always been there, even in the darkest of dark days, never losing faith in the primacy of politics even when he had little reason to sustain that faith, suffering personally, enduring privately, but most of all insisting on straight talk when such was far from popular.’ The Irish Times 1999
