Description
Portsmouth D-Day Museum
2024 is the 80th
Anniversary of D-Day. The museum tells the story of D-Day with over 10,000 items...the largest of which is the last surviving Tank Landing Craft (LCT 7074) which contains Sherman and Churchill tanks.
Among the exhibits inside the museum is the 83 metre, Overlord Embroidery of 34 hand-stitched panels which took five years to create by the Royal School of Embroidery. A free, self-guided audio tour is available with your own mobile ‘phone…separate headphones are suggested.
This will be a “Self-drive” trip and there is car parking along the promenade beside the museum.
The committee decided to let members pay the Museum direct, as Eventbrite fees would have eaten up more than the group discount. Richard Hodgkinson has arranged with the Museum that you will get the Senior Group discount at the door if you tell them you are in our group. Richard will give them a list of everyone who has signed up.
If you are a disabled senior, the price is lower, and there's a 40% discount at the door for holders of a Portsmouth Leisure card.
Although you don't have to pay the Club, we'd still like you to register, so we can warn the museum of numbers, and know who to expect. The plan is to meet outside the museum at 10 am, and go in about 10:15 (or earlier if it's raining).
