A talk and discussion by Ben Foster CEng MIMechE of Tactical Energy Systems

Plug-in solar panels became legal in Great Britain on 27th August 2026. A household may generate up to 800W through a standard wall socket – one device per household.

The meeting will explain exactly how they work, discuss what to purchase, where and how to fit them safely and who to notify. The planning and building regulations will be discussed, especially in the Peak District National Park and for buildings that are listed or in conservation areas. There will be a comparison between a plug-in system and traditional solar installations.

Plug-in batteries are not covered by the new rules and cannot be connected this way; the Government will consider them separately, possibly next year. Conventional home battery storage is unaffected.

More information is on the HVCA website under the Energy Group tab.

The meeting is hosted by Hope Valley Climate Action Energy Group.
