Fabric Collage workshop "Memory-in-law"

Fabric collage workshop using a stranger’s old photo. Borrow their memory and reimagine it through your own eyes.

As part of Thin Red Lion’s group show workshop programme, artist Marine One invites you to play with fabric, memory and imagination.

You’ll work from a stranger’s old photograph and reinterpret the scene in your own way, using fabric scraps, thread, textile and simple stitching.

There is no need to copy the photograph exactly. You can pick out the details that catch your eye, change things, simplify them or invent something new. The fun is in seeing how someone else’s memory changes when it passes through your hands.

At the end of the workshop, your finished collage will be returned to the person connected to the original photograph, creating a small exchange between memory, maker and owner.

No previous sewing experience is needed.
