Claire Morwood
Cardboard, clay, fabric and green screens: exploring craft mediums in game art
Overview: Asterism is an interactive music video game set in space, with hand-crafted art made from a variety of mediums such as clay and cardboard. Claire Morwood will share behind the scenes examples of her art process and experimentation during Asterism’s development. She will talk about why she uses hand-crafted art styles, as well as showing specific examples from the game and details of the techniques and equipment that she uses. In particular, she will talk about stop-motion graphics, photography, digital editing and how to experiment with a range of art materials, providing insight and inspiration into a joyful and creative way to make unique video game art.

Survival, Gamification, and the Horizon Europe: The Unconventional Journey of Mito Games
Overview: How does a Brazilian indie studio navigate internationalization to establish roots in Europe? In this talk, Rafael “Lontra” shares the unconventional history of Mito Games.
He will explore the raw realities of business survival, shifting focus from serious games, to outsourcing anything, to entertainment and strategic gamification projects to keep the studio growing.
Finally, he will detail how breaking through the doors of the European Union’s Horizon Europe program (GoDigiBio) became the definitive catalyst for their expansion.
Expect honest insights on global scaling, funny stories about cross-border adaptation and funding alternative avenues in gamedev.

Overview: Starting a game studio today isn’t what it used to be. With traditional funding drying up and the industry shifting rapidly, the old start-up playbook no longer works for emerging developers. So, how do new indie studios survive and thrive in the current climate?
Join us for a candid, lesson-filled session on navigating the modern start-up pipeline. Drawing from first-hand experience transitioning a volunteer-led studio into a commercial incubator, this talk pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to build a studio from scratch today.
