IAM RoadSmart 2026 Machine Handling & Control Day is designed to improve your riding skills and safety awareness by focusing on the vital relationship between the rider, the machine, and the environment. You’ll receive personalised coaching from IAM RoadSmart-qualified instructors, tailored to your ability and experience.

Held in the safe and controlled environment at TTS, Nutts Corner, with only 32 riders in four groups of 8 - this day gives you the chance to build confidence, sharpen your skills, and explore what you and your motorcycle is capable of, without the pressures of the road.

What to expect

  • A practical session focussing on machine handling, building confidence when manoeuvring your motorcycle at slow speeds.
  • Riding practice on your own motorcycle to develop essential road skills including clutch, throttle, and brake control.
  • A session covering immediate roadside lifesaving first aid, taught by a medical professional, so you know what to do if you come across a collision.
  • A practical session on motorcycle care, including checks on key areas such as electrics, oil, tyres, suspension, and chains.
  • A session explaining how motorcycle brakes work and then learning how to use them effectively.

What you’ll work on

Practical exercises will focus on:

  • Rider control and developing skills.
  • Mental attitude to the motorcycle and riding.
  • Physical inputs to the machine.

Skills you’ll develop

Throughout the day, you will:

  • Improve your machine stability and balance.
  • Explore tyres and your tyre grip trade-offs.
  • Practise slow-speed machine control and steering techniques.
  • Develop controlled braking skills.
  • Learn how to look after your motorcycle.

Who’s it for?

The Machine Handling Day is aimed at newer or less experienced riders with a full UK driving licence who want to build confidence in a professional, supportive setting. It’s particularly well suited to riders who haven’t completed the Advanced Rider course.

Before booking, please review all terms and conditions, including the cancellation policy and FAQs, on the IAM RoadSmart Skills Days webpage.
