Skills for the Road Car Day 2026
IAM RoadSmart’s Skills for the Road Car Day gives drivers aged 17–26 the chance to develop essential driving skills with hands-on guidance from qualified instructors. Set in a supportive, small-group environment, the iconic Thruxton Circuit becomes your classroom.
Whether you’re a newly qualified driver or already have some experience, these practical sessions are designed to help you build confidence, control, and awareness on the road, using your own vehicle so you can immediately apply what you learn.
What’s included:
Circuit Skills
• Learn key driving techniques including cornering, braking, and overtaking. Instructors provide focused guidance in a safe, traffic-free environment, giving you plenty of opportunity to practise new techniques.
Skid Pan
• Build precision, control, and confidence in low-grip conditions with an IAM RoadSmart instructor. Understand how your car’s driver assistance systems work while practising in a controlled setting.
Vehicle Maintenance
• A hands-on workshop covering basic maintenance for your car, including checks on electrics, oil, tyres, suspension.
Roadside First Aid
• Learn immediate life-saving skills from a medical professional so you’ll know what to do if you encounter a collision.
