Dust off your Leathers!

IAM RoadSmart in partnership with Transport Scotland and Police Scotland have devised a pilot programme to give riders the opportunity to refresh and enhance their riding skills using their own motorcycle. Guided by IAM RoadSmart-qualified instructors at the iconic Knockhill Circuit. During the day riders will also be provided with a circuit based session and workshops including

• A practical session focussing on machine handling, building confidence when manoeuvring your motorcycle at slow speeds.
• A session covering immediate roadside lifesaving first aid, taught by a medical professional, so you know what to do if you come across a collision.[AI1]
• A practical session on motorcycle care, including checks on key areas such as electrics, oil, tyres, suspension, and chains.
• A session explaining how motorcycle brakes work and then learning how to use them effectively.

The day is aimed at riders getting back on a bike after the winter, these events offer a rare chance to practise and refine precision riding techniques in a safe, controlled racing circuit environment away from the pressures and risks of public roads. You will be allocated around 3 hours on circuit where our instructors will work with you to improve core skills like cornering, overtaking and braking building confidence on your machine.

In addition to the on-circuit sessions you will also be provided with life saving first aid inputs, how to check and maintain your bike and training to improve your braking and low speed manoeuvring.

Riders can confidently transfer these skills to everyday riding.

Participants will work in small groups with an experienced instructor and will have plenty of opportunities to put newly learned techniques into practice on the track. The day is not a ‘Track Day’ but instead uses the safer environment of a circuit without road furniture and other traffic to allow you to improve your skills in line with ‘Road Craft’ the Police Riders handbook.

The event is open to riders of all skill levels including the recently coming back to biking, those looking to refresh and improve their riding skills and riders who have a lot of motorcycling experience. Everyone will pick up something new and improve their skills and safety. We will, as far as possible, place you in groups with similar skill levels.
