About the Workshop
This introductory Tai Ji Chuan workshop invites participants to explore the fundamental principles of classical Yang-style Tai Ji through movement, breath, and mindful physical practice.
Participants will learn foundational warm-up exercises and begin exploring the fluid choreography of the opening section of the Tai Ji form. The workshop emphasizes balance, relaxation, and body awareness while introducing the physical and philosophical foundations of this traditional martial art.
About the Instructors
Bob Murphy, MS, LAc has studied Chinese martial and healing arts for more than fifty years and trained extensively with Grand Master Yu Cheng Hsiang. He has taught Tai Ji and martial arts throughout New York City at institutions including the New York Open Center, Battery Dance Company, Murray Street Studio, and other cultural venues.
Kristen Dolan Murphy, MS Ed, MSACTCM, LAc has practiced Tai Ji for more than thirty years. She studied weekly with Master Yu Cheng Hsiang for fifteen years and holds master’s degrees in Education from CUNY and in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science. She has taught Tai Ji at venues across New York City including the New York Public Library, NYC Parks and Recreation, Murray Street Studio, the Joan and Alan Bernikow JCC, and the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art.
