An Evening with Rimpa Siva — tabla
An Evening with Rimpa Siva
We are thrilled to welcome Rimpa Siva — the Princess of Tabla — one of India's most celebrated tabla artists.
She grew up in a tradition that rarely welcomed girls, and transformed it from the inside. A prodigy trained in the Farukhabad gharana by her father Prof. Swapan Siva, she brings to the tabla a combination of technical precision, spontaneity, and expressive power that is genuinely uncommon.
Her performances open with a long, meditative peshkar — a slow-building introduction that gives way to an electrifying solo moving through gats, tukras, and relas with stunning clarity. The tabla in her hands is not accompaniment — it is the full voice of the evening.
Hailed by legends including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and Pandit Kishen Maharaj, she is a recipient of the Indian Music Academy President Award and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
She will be accompanied by Shreyes Ravi on harmonium.
