‘Guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis navigates the sonic universe of Cuban music with great skill, where elements of Africa, Europe, and the Americas converge.’ Eduardo Martin
‘Nikos Baroutsakis has designed an anthology, representative of our music. We are grateful for this, as even today there is a shortage of such productions.' Leo Brouwer
'A la cubana', is a live presentation of the eponymous debut album by guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis that pays tribute to Cuban music. Recorded at the the legendary Abbey Road Studios, it is the culmination of years' worth of exploration of the Cuban guitar repertoire, inspired by the music of the Buena Vista Social Club. The album includes two new works by renowned composers, commissioned by (and dedicated especially to) Nikos: Toccata cubana by Leo Brouwer and Rincones habaneros by Eduardo Martin.
Born in Athens, Greece, Nikos Baroutsakis is a classically trained guitarist with a wide range of interests in different kinds of music. Nikos has performed in prestigious venues and organizations such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the Bridewell
Theatre, the Electric Ballroom, Bolivar Hall, the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, Sofar Sounds, Debut Opera, the Volterra Project, and the Marchland Festival, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with folk singer Savina Yannatou and jazz guitarist Alex Roth.
