Join us for an encouraging and inspiring kick-off breakfast at our IDEA Curriculum Fair event in Fairbanks (Carlson Center, Pioneer Room) on Monday, May 8 from 8:00am—10:00am. Our 2023 Keynote features Janice Habermann, former IDEA Assistant Director and homeschooling mother of 3. Like a garden, homeschool requires attention to the soil, seeds, weeds and harvest. Keep your garden principles in mind to successfully "grow" your homeschool garden.
Janice Habermann is the mother of 3 and the grandmother of 6. She came to Alaska over 30 years ago and raised her family in Soldotna on the Kenai Peninsula. She started homeschooling her children in 1993, before any of the homeschool support programs. Finding curriculum and quality supplies was a challenge, so she opened her own curriculum store -The Brain Box- in 1996. IDEA began in 1997 and with its inception homeschooling became so much easier. After Janice sold The Brain Box, she joined the IDEA staff in 2004 in the Kenai office. She has held positions as Resource Room Coordinator- in charge of curriculum resources, Contact Teacher, the Kenai and Anchorage Site Administrator and the IDEA Assistant Director. Janice loved her time at IDEA as mentoring homeschool families is her passion. She left IDEA in 2021 and now helps to homeschool her grandchildren.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Keynote Meal tickets are $15 per seat. All tickets must be purchased in advance, so that we can provide accurate numbers to the caterers. The purchase price is the same for IDEA and non-IDEA attendees. The meals in every location cost far more than $15 each and are subsidized by IDEA so that more homeschoolers can be encouraged and inspired! Since there is limited seating in most locations, anyone taking a seat must purchase a ticket, including small children. Nursing babies are, of course, free.
MENU: Scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and bacon. Beverages include iced water and drip coffee.
LAST DATE TO PURCHASE: Friday, April 28, 2023
