CARBON LITERACY DAY OF ACTION (CLAD)
The annual International Carbon Literacy Action Day is the world’s largest climate education-and-action training event. It brings together thousands of people, from all walks of life, ages and countries, to simultaneously complete their Carbon Literacy training.

This Action Day coincides with COP31 – the largest climate event of the year. While world leaders gather to negotiate on climate policy in Antalya, Türkiye, Carbon Literacy changemakers will be on-the-ground learning, collaborating, and getting inspired to take impactful action on climate change. As part of CLAD, you may earn a unique Action Day certificate. Learn more about CLAD and its significance here.

• Self-paced: Approx. 2 hours required before first live virtual meeting
• 6-8:30 pm, Tuesday, November 9, 2026
• 6-8:30 pm, Thursday, November 10, 2026 
• 9-11 am, Thursday, November 12, 2026 - CLAD Global World Tour (optional)
• Self-paced: Approx. 30 mins required before November 17, 2026

OVERVIEW
This action-oriented training is designed for anyone who is concerned about the climate crisis and wants to take ambitious action to reduce reliance on fossil fuels within their communities. If this describes you, please join us!

The training uses San Diego-specific case studies and is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, the international accreditation body for Carbon Literacy. Topics include greenhouse gases, their potencies, the carbon cycle, disproportionate causes and consequences of the climate crisis, self-care, and strategizing for individual and collective impact.

A certificate in Carbon Literacy will prepare you to:

• Turn climate anxiety into climate action,
• Land a job advancing climate solutions or take on sustainability initiatives at your current employer,
• Jumpstart your ability to advance climate justice solutions in your community, and
• Become part of a community advancing climate justice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the training, you should be able to:

1. Clearly explain the most important changes we need to make as a society to reach zero carbon.
2. Create at least one significant, new action within your individual control to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This includes explaining why your new action is significant and how it reduces emissions within your individual control.
3. Create at least one significant, new action involving other people to reduce collective emissions via your workplace, community or place of education. This includes explaining why your new action is significant to this wider group and how it reduces the wider group’s greenhouse gas emissions.

CERTIFICATION
By completing the training and providing sufficient evidence of your participation, understanding, and action, you will earn a certificate in Carbon Literacy from the Carbon Literacy Project and IGC. Certificates are uniquely numbered with your details and held in a secure database by IGC for verification by employers or other external bodies. Certificates do not expire, they belong to you, the individual certified, and they travel with you as evidence of your Carbon Literacy. REQUIREMENTS
To get the most out of the training, you will be required to:

• Agree to IGC's community conduct guidelines;
• Complete all components of the training including both live virtual sessions and the self-paced content. If you experience an emergency and must miss a session, contact your Facilitator directly; and
• Complete and turn in the Commitment Form by the established deadline.​

NETWORKING EVENTS​
Carbon Literate San Diegans gain access to IGC's Slack workspace where they join members of previous cohorts to network, share resources and advice, and contribute to the growing Carbon Literacy community. The Slack workspace will also be used for sharing IGC social events, volunteer opportunities, information on becoming a Carbon Literacy Facilitator or Trainer, and more.

FACILITATORS
This training is designed by Dr. Adrienne Fusek and co-delivered with Inemesit "Ine" Williams.

Adrienne is a Carbon Literacy Trainer and IGC’s Executive Director and founder. She has a professional background in adult education, training, and international postsecondary education. In addition to managing IGC, she teaches Environmental Sciences and Sustainability at San Diego State University (SDSU). Learn more and connect here.

FEE
The fee is $295 and includes the Carbon Literacy Project evaluation and certification fee. If your evidence of training engagement, understanding, and action is determined to be insufficient, we will work with you to provide the Carbon Literacy Project additional evidence. Reassessment entails an additional processing fee and becoming certified Carbon Literate is not guaranteed.

We have made every effort to keep the fee as low as possible while covering administrative expenses. If the fee is a barrier to your participation, we particularly want you to be part of our Carbon Literacy community and encourage you to apply for a full or partial scholarship. Thanks to generous donors, we have a limited number of scholarships. If you are awarded a full or partial scholarship, you must commit to completing all training requirements including the Commitment Form (view a sample form).
