Textiles UnTangled Workshop

Sat Oct 17, 2026 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library, Music Room, 92114

TEXTILES ARE EVERYWHERE!
They're in our clothing, furniture, toys and even computers! But how much do you really know about them? What exactly are our textiles made from? How sustainable are they? How far do our clothes travel before we buy them? Where do they go once they're donated?

WHAT IS TEXTILES UNTANGLED?

This collaborative workshop illustrates the complexities and impacts (social and ecological) of the textile industry by using clothing as a case study. You will create the production chain of textiles and learn about the industry’s impact. Then, you'll work with other participants to find solutions and actions you can take.

The Textiles UnTangled workshop was launched in 2021 by Green Donut and is inspired by the pedagogy of the Climate Fresk.

YOU'LL LEARN ABOUT:

  • Materials 101 - Which fabrics should I choose!?!
  • The life cycle of textiles, from raw materials to end of life
  • The social and environmental impacts of the textile industry
  • How to think critically about sustainability claims made by companies & organizations
  • The circular economy, systems thinking, and human centered solutions
  • Actions that can be taken on a collective, business, and individual level

The main references used include: Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Preferred Textiles Report, OXFAM, Fashion Revolution and ADEME (The French Agency for Ecological Transition).

IS THIS THE RIGHT WORKSHOP FOR ME?
If you work in the textile industry and need to know how SB 707, the Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024, is changing your work, don't miss this workshop. If you love fashion and want to help the industry move toward circularity, you will love this deep dive!

We offer public workshops at low, or no, cost to ensure quality climate education is accessible to all. All are welcome to our public workshops, however if 2 or more from the same workplace wish to participate together, we ask that you contact us at hello@igc.earth to discuss pricing for dedicated company workshops.

This in-person workshop is being offered by IGC - In Good Company. Learn more about IGC and Green Donut.
