Description
Join us for a PowerHour with Dr. Michael Bender, a renowned clinical psychologist and author. We'll delve into his latest book, "A New Understanding of Dementia" discussing the motivation behind the book, the current state of dementia services, and potential improvements. We'll also explore if there are any services that exemplify best practices in dementia care.
Dr Michael Bender graduated from Edinburgh University with an M.A.(Honours) in Psychology and started his career as a clinical psychologist in the Social Services Department of the London Borough of Newham in the East End, working with all types of adult client groups. He built up a team that was recognised as pioneering community psychology in the U.K., for which he was elected a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Appointed as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, in the Southwest of England, he created a psychology service for older people. This team provided therapeutic inputs for all the types of problems experienced in old age and undertook innovative research into many aspects of “dementia”, Michael continued supervising and researching cognitive difficulties in old age after his retirement.
