Soil to Study: Public Finds and the Portable Antiquities Scheme

Rachael Varley is an amateur archaeologist and volunteer with the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme, which has recorded more than 1.8 million archaeological finds since its launch in 1998.

In this talk, Rachael will introduce the Scheme, share the stories behind nationally significant discoveries and explore fascinating objects found by members of the public in and around Ilkley.

Arrive at Ilkley Manor House at 10:15am for a hot drink and biscuit. The talk begins at 10:30am, lasts roughly an hour and includes time for questions at the end.

Tickets £5. Tickets may be purchased via Ticket Tailor, or in person at the Box Office on weekends when Ilkley Manor House is open. Limited tickets may be available on the door, subject to availability.

Coffee Morning talks usually take place on the ground floor in the Housebody. If numbers require, the event may move upstairs, accessed by 18 steps with no lift. Visitors should contact the Manor House beforehand if this would be an issue.
