Made by the Sea brings many of those people together for a day.

Part market, part town trail, it's an opportunity to spend time exploring North Shields through the people who make, create, cook, write, perform and work here.

You'll find artists, photographers, food producers, authors, musicians, makers, collectors and independent businesses from across the North East, each bringing a small piece of their world with them.

Browse original artwork and photography. Discover books by local authors. Find something unusual for your home. Meet the makers behind independent brands. Sample local food and drink. Watch demonstrations, take part in workshops and hear the stories behind the products, projects and businesses that make our region what it is.

Some will be selling prints. Some will be pouring beer. Some will be sharing skills, running workshops or talking about their work. Some simply have a good story to tell.

We want visitors to leave with more than a purchase.

Perhaps you'll find a new artist to follow. A local producer you've never come across before. A book you didn't know existed. A piece for your home. A new favourite place to visit. A conversation that stays with you long after the day is over.

Alongside the market, visitors can enjoy local music, food and drink, workshops, demonstrations and opportunities to meet some of the artists, makers and independent businesses helping to define modern North East culture.

North Shields has always been a meeting point. People arrived here from elsewhere and left with something they didn't have before. We like the idea that this market continues that tradition in its own way.

The market is the starting point.

What we're really interested in are the people behind it.

We're looking for artists, photographers, designers, food producers, musicians, authors, makers, workshop hosts, heritage organisations and independent businesses who would like to be part of the first Made by the Sea.

This is a curated market and we're interested in people with something interesting to share, whether that's a product, a skill, a craft, a story or a different way of seeing the world.

We're bringing together people who care about where they live, what they buy and who they buy it from. It's a chance to meet new customers, connect with other independents and be part of something new.

As spaces are limited, applications will be carefully curated to create a varied and inspiring mix of traders.

We're building something we'd like to visit ourselves.
