Eastern Region ADASS & ADCS Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Training for Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Training for Family Carers

The training will provide an overview of:

  • The Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how it relates to health/social care decisions for people 16+
  • How the MCA principles apply to health/care decisions and how they should be applied in practice by professionals and by all people supporting a person to make a specific decision for themselves
  • What your loved one’s rights are, what professional’s responsibilities are under the Act and what rights family and friends have in this process
  • The importance of always involving and supporting people in decision making
  • What are mental capacity assessments, best Interests assessments and decisions in practice, the role of professionals and the role of families
  • What constitutes a restraint/restriction and the importance of the less restrictive option
  • What is meant by deprivation of liberty and how deprivation of liberty is authorised and what role the family may play in that process
