Our Background
IMSG is a UK registered charity which was established in 1994 with the aim to support undergraduate medical education at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
The organisation was founded with the objective of supporting, inspiring, and empowering future generations of medical students, while helping to ensure that the College continues to achieve excellence in clinical practice, teaching, research, and leadership.
Our aim has always been to preserve and strengthen the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan’s longstanding international reputation for excellence in medical education, clinical training, and academic medicine.
Our Work
Due to the prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria, medical students have faced significant difficulties over the years in pursuing their studies. Rising living costs and inadequate infrastructure have created substantial obstacles to learning and academic progress. Consequently, alumni groups have become an essential source of support for both students and the College.
To address these challenges, IMSG UK has, over several years, invested in numerous initiatives aimed at improving student welfare and ensuring that the learning environment remains conducive to academic success.
Our recent programmes include an annual scholarship scheme from which many students have benefited and continue to benefit. IMSG UK is one of the largest contributors to the College’s scholarship programme, providing vital financial support to deserving students.
One of our landmark projects was the construction of the IMSG Pre-Clinical Library. More recently, we undertook the refurbishment and modernisation of the library, enhancing its facilities and creating a more suitable environment for study and research.
In addition, IMSG UK has refurbished one of the lecture theatres at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, improving the teaching and learning experience for students and faculty alike.
Recognising the importance of reliable electricity for education, we have also completed a number of solar power projects within the College. These include solar-powered reading facilities in the Pre-Clinical Library as well as dedicated study spaces within the University College Hospital (UCH), enabling medical students and academic clinicians to study and work effectively regardless of power supply challenges.
Through these initiatives, IMSG UK continues to promote student welfare, support academic excellence, and contribute meaningfully to the development of the College.
IMSG UK also funds the Journal of Global Medicine, a scholarly publication that features articles from both local and international contributors. This initiative is consistent with our overarching aim of promoting clinical excellence, advancing research, and strengthening academic scholarship within the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Looking Ahead
Through these efforts, our aim is to continue making a meaningful contribution towards creating a supportive and conducive learning environment for our students. We are committed to ensuring that the next generation of doctors remains highly skilled, motivated, and inspired to uphold the proud traditions and enduring legacy of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Together, we remain dedicated to preserving the College’s excellence and strengthening its position as a leading institution for medical education, research, and clinical training.
