The recent gear shift to pragmatic policy commitments from the Government means the pace of Net Zero transition in transport now looks to be slowed. Specifically, the ban on the sale of fossil-fuel powered vehicles being pushed back from 2030 to 2035, new laws to improve the EV charging experience, questions on how we decarbonise freight and aviation, electrify railways and roll out zero emission buses will all be on our agenda. This Net Zero APPG session provides a particularly timely and relevant opportunity for MPs and Peers, from all parties, to come together and look at the Net Zero innovation, investment and incentives which are required – and would work – to accelerate and embed cleaner and greener transport and travel choices.
The Unlocking Net Zero series is designed to build on the Net Zero APPG’s 10-point Action Plan and Net Zero Roadmap and our recent Net Zero Myth Busting Report which de-bunked some common myths and misconceptions around Net Zero transition; such as whether rail electrification is too expensive, if we need more EV charge points, or if reducing road capacity will help us to get to net zero… and sets out why – in terms of the economy alone – we must scale up our efforts to tackle the climate crisis.
